Your accent is a hearing problem before it is a speaking problem
You cannot reliably produce a sound you cannot reliably hear.
By about twelve months old, an infant stops hearing the sound contrasts its language does not use. The ability is not lost, but it stops being automatic.
This is why a Japanese speaker learning English struggles with r and l, and why an English speaker learning Russian cannot hear the difference between a palatalised and unpalatalised consonant that every Russian child hears effortlessly.
The practical consequence: drilling your mouth before training your ear is backwards. You will faithfully produce the wrong sound because it is the one you are hearing.
